The University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize has been offered annually since 2014. On behalf of the University, this is administered by the International Poetry Studies Institute (IPSI), part of the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research in the Faculty of Arts and Design.

The prize celebrates the enduring significance of poetry to cultures everywhere in the world and its ongoing and often seminal importance to world literature. It marks the University of Canberra’s commitment to creativity and imagination in all that it does and builds on the work of the International Poetry Studies Institute in identifying poetry as a highly resilient and sophisticated human activity. It also builds on the activities of the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research, which conducts wide-ranging research into human creativity and culture.

 Benefits

• The winner will receive AUD$15,000.
• The runner-up (second-placed poem) will receive AUD$5,000.
• There will also be four shortlisted poems. These will receive no additional payment beyond the standard payment for publication in the Prize Longlist Anthology.
• Poems selected for longlist will receive AUD$50 per poem upon publication in the Prize Longlist Anthology, excluding the winner and runner-up.

 Eligibilities

• Entries may be submitted from any place in the world and you don’t have to be a previously published poet to enter.
• All entrants must be 18 years of age or over when they enter the Prize.
• Entries may not be submitted on someone else’s behalf.
• The following persons are not eligible to enter the competition or assist any eligible person to enter – judges; the competition Administrators; University of Canberra academics, general staff or other University of Canberra employees, or immediate family members of these people.
