Each year, ARES awards an average of 150 scholarships for masters and 70 scholarships for internships for nationals of the South. Students of Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia ( only for training in English ), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Vietnam can apply for these scholarships.

Specialization masters and ARES courses offer you the opportunity to follow a master of one year or a refresher course between 4 and 6 months in an institution of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, Belgium.

Applicants must have a good knowledge of written and spoken French. For training organized in another language, it is necessary to have good knowledge of the course language, written and spoken. They also ask the candidate to commit to learn French in order to participate in daily life in Belgium.

Amounts for a master scholarship

  • International Travel Expenses: to justify/In economy class on an IATA company, maximum one round trip per academic year.
  • Subsistence allowance: flat rate /889 € / month .
  • Indirect mission expenses: flat rate /150 €. Amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow.
  • Installation costs: flat rate /550 €. Single amount granted at the beginning of the first stay as part of the master’s scholarship.
  • Training fees: flat rate /500 €  Amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow.
  • Registration fees: At the reduced rate for DGD Fellows.
  • Insurance costs:   Directly paid by the ARES.
  • Housing allowance: flat rate/ 389 € / month . The fellow must submit his lease contract to the host university .
  • Allowances for dependents: flat rate € 62 / month / dependent .
  • Return fees: flat rate 250 €. Single amount granted at the end of the scholarship.
  • Travel expenses for interuniversity training: to justify/Reimbursed on the basis of actual costs and vouchers. 1st Session
  • Success Bonus (June): flat rate 1250 €. Single amount granted at the end of the scholarship .

  • Entrance Requirements: In order for the application to be admissible, the candidate must:
    • Either from a developing country. To be eligible, applicants must reside and work in their country at the time of submission;
    • Only nationals of the following countries are allowed to apply for ARES scholarships: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia ( only for training in English ), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Vietnam ;
    • Either less than 40 years old for courses, and less than 45 years old for internships , at the beginning of the training;
    • Holds a diploma comparable to a second cycle degree in Belgian university education. However, for some courses, different requirements may be stated, which will then be specified below;
    • Demonstrates a professional occupation in a developing country at least two years after the end of the second cycle of university , or three years after graduation when the candidate holds a postgraduate degree awarded by a university from an industrialized country;

Any application file containing money will automatically be rejected.

How to Apply:

  • Complete the single application form for a scholarship and admission to one of the French-speaking universities in Belgium;

  • No document sent to ARES will be returned to candidates;
  • No follow-up will be given to cases that do not meet the eligibility criteria clearly mentioned on the site (certified diploma, age, professional experience.).
