Thanks to the vision and the generosity of the Neubauer family, UChicago established the Neubauer International Summer Scholars program to provide funding for talented students attending high schools in BrazilMexico, and Vietnam to participate in select University of Chicago Summer Session courses with all expenses paid.

This is your chance to discover the awesome course opportunities for high school students this summer at the University of Chicago. Within a supportive campus community, students from all over the globe are exposed to diverse ideas in classrooms taught by world-class faculty and instructors. In the classroom, students are given the chance to take intellectual risks, dive more deeply into subject matter, and discuss questions that go beyond the realm of their high school curriculum.Students selected will receive a full scholarship to participate in ONE of two Summer Session courses: Arts and Sciences Summer in Chicago or UChicago Immersion. 

Scholarship Application Deadline: March 1, 2018.

*Please note that this scholarship application deadline differs from the specific program application deadlines listed on the Summer Session website. 

  Program Requirements

  • This scholarship opportunity is only open to students attending high school in Brazil, Mexico, and Vietnam.
  • Students MUST be current high school students during the 2018 Summer Session.
  • This is a residential program. The scholarship covers residential fees and the cost of travel to and from campus.

Tuition & Fees Students selected for the program will receive a full scholarship, including course tuition, housing and dining, residential and student life fees, health insurance, US student visa application fees, and the cost of travel to and from campus.

Scholarship Application

  • Students must first complete the scholarship application form available at the bottom of this page to be considered for this opportunity.
  • Please save a copy of the confirmation email you will receive after submitting your scholarship application. You will need to upload a copy of that message to your Summer Session application.
  • After applying for this scholarship, you must apply for admission to the Summer Session course of your choosing directly through the Summer Session website, following all the application instructions and requirements.
  • Please note that the Summer Session application fee will be automatically waived for all Neubauer International scholarship applicants.
  • Final deadline is MARCH 1, 2018.
  • All your Summer Session application materials must be submitted directly to the Summer Session office by March 1, 2018.
  • All applications will be reviewed in March, and decisions will be emailed to all students by April 1, 2018.
  • Two (2) applicants from each country will be selected as 2018 Neubauer International Summer Scholars.

Instructions for your high school documents: You should submit your school documents to the appropriate EducationUSA office listed below. The EducationUSA adviser in charge will verify your documents, and submit them to UChicago on your behalf. For documents in a language other than English, please work with EducationUSA to have them translated into English (for a fee; please consult EdUSA for pricing). If the EdUSA office does not offer translation services, they will be able to suggest local translators you can use.

Candidate Selection

  • Applicants must meet all Summer Session application and admissions requirements in order to be considered for the International Neubauer Summer Session scholarship opportunity.
  • BEFORE completing the form on this page, please visit the Summer Session website and make sure you understand the Summer Session application process and requirements for international students.
  • Students will be selected through a holistic application review process.
  • Selected students will commit to organizing at least one group presentation upon returning to their home country, preferably at their own high school, to share their experience of studying at a US university, and help their peers learn more about educational opportunities in the United States in general. Support materials and resources will be provided.

Course Details Summer Immersion Programs for High School Students Immerse yourself in one your passions, and take advantage of the rich educational resources offered by the University and the city of Chicago through our Summer Immersion programs for high school students. In these undergraduate-level courses, you will get personalized attention from faculty, researchers, and other professionals who will lead you through labs, workshop discussions, field observations, research projects, and other hands-on activities.

Arts and Sciences Summer in Chicago

Arts and Sciences is an intensive pre-college summer program for high school students that cultivates critical thinking, innovative problem-solving, and effective communication skills through interdisciplinary work drawing upon material from them sciences, humanities, and the social sciences. Students educated in the liberal arts tradition are distinguished by their ability to successfully navigate a fast-paced world that is increasingly characterized by complexity, diversity, and change. In a program inspired by the UChicago’s fabled Core curriculum, academically ambitious high school students will have the opportunity to experience the university’s brand of intellectual engagement in an on-campus program taught by teams of faculty and graduate student instructors from different disciplines.
