Initiative for Peace (IFP): Mae Sot 22-27 June 2018

The Mae Sot Conference in June 2018UWCSEA welcome applications from youth (between 17-23 years old) who want to attendthe Initiative for Peace conference. It will be held from 22 to 27 June 2017 in Mae Sot.The conference will be held in English. Basic ability in spoken English is important.

The aim of the conference is to work for peace and empowerment by connecting youthfrom different communities to work together. If you attend you we hope you will:

• Develop confidence, self-esteem, communication and leadership skills
• Share your own experiences, challenges you have faced, and strategies forovercoming these challenges
• Learn about other cultures, and how to work effectively with others for the commongood
• Explore important ideas such as peace and identity
• Develop skills for reconciliation, conflict management, problem solving and buildingcommunity
• Plan actions to initiate positive change in your own communities after theconference

If you are accepted as a delegate you will be expected to:

• Attend and participate fully in all seminars, workshops and conference activities
• Work in a responsible, respectful and constructive manner throughout the conference
• Engage in positive initiatives after the conference

Location

The IFP conference will be held at the Huenkamfah Golf resort in Mae Sot. Participants will be in single-sex shared rooms of 4 or 5 with other delegates and with facilitators from UWCSEA.

Cost

Costs for the conference will be covered by UWCSEA. This includes accommodation and meals, all materials and activities. Transport will be arranged from Mae La. Delegates from other locations will need to arrange their own transport at their own cost.
