Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI) provides research and consulting services in policy and development economics and sector research. MDRI conducts surveys for the Government of Vietnam, international organizations, and agencies in Vietnam and around the world. MDRI is an independent scientific and technological organization. At MDRI, we believe that research plays an indispensable role in the development process. 

The Institute was founded by a group of researchers and consultants who have rich experience and renowned expertise in development economics. Our leading areas of competency include monitoring & evaluation (M&E), agricultural and rural development, impact evaluation, poverty reduction and gender equality, developing and connecting agricultural goods market as well as policy review and policy recommendations. Through these projects, MDRI’s consultants have brought forward meaningful and valuable research and consulting products, part of which were published in internationally recognized journals including the American Economic Journal, World Development, the Health Economic Journal, etc…. Others were available under forms of consulting reports, policy briefs used for the Government leaders and presented in national and international conferences. 

MDRI is ranked No.1 among economic institutions in Vietnam and is among the top 17% of 12,700 economic institutes in the world by IDEAS: Economics and Finance Research [1]. We aspire to help bring successful policy reforms as well as challenges overcoming lessons in opening Vietnam economy to countries with similar socio-economic conditions.

MDRI is looking for candidates for the vacancies of Research associates.

Mekong Development Research Institute has its well-established standing in the field of socio-economic and development research in Vietnam. The Institute is currently seeking potential candidates for a full-time Research Associate position.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Work as a team leader in the assigned research and consultancy projects
  • Provide guidance and support to the Research Analysts and Research Assistants in conducting research and consultancy projects
  • Take lead in designing and implementing survey(s) and research study(ies), conduct fieldwork
  • Take lead in developing the research proposals
  • Process and analyze quantitative data (using STATA software) and/or undertake qualitative analysis
  • Write project reports and research          
  • Travel for work (domestic and international)

 

Qualifications

  • The Research associate should have a PhD degree or a Master with first class honour in development economics, statistics, econometrics or related fields;
  • At least 2 years of experience working in the field development economics;
  • A strong quantitative background, including impact evaluation, mathematics, econometrics and statistics;
  • An incisive analytical and problem-solving skill
  • An excellent command of English
  • A strong capability to perform independent work and to be an excellent team player.
  • A strong desire to pursue the career in economic research
