The new PhD Scholarship opportunities – HRB Neonatal Encephalopathy PhD Training Network (NEPTuNE) is now available on offer to support full time structured PhD research. This scholarship is available to international students.

The programme is student centered and the qualification is designed to enhance, improve and directly engage the student in relevant research skills. In addition, it will offer the student disciplinary, generic and transferable skills, tailored to suit the experience of the student and reflect the disciplinary requirements.

Clinical Research Development Ireland (CRDI) is a not-for-profit research partnership comprising NUI Galway, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and University College Dublin, their medical schools, associated academic hospitals and clinical research facilities, with the objective of accelerating the translation of biomedical research into improved diagnostics, therapies and devices for patients.

Scholarship Description:

  • Study Subject: PhD Projects available
    Develop a core outcome set for use in clinical trials, and other studies, for the prevention and the treatment of hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy – NUI Galway
    CRADLE: Circadian Rhythm Alterations anD outcome in neonatal Encephalopathy – TCD
    PANDA: Psychological And Neurodevelopmental assessment of Neonatal Encephalopathy – TCD
    Identify characteristic features or ‘biomarkers’ of encephalopathy in newborn infants using EEG – UCC
    NEON: Investigate the functional brain changes in neonatal encephalopathy (NE) infants and the associated behavioral and cognitive consequences – TCD.
  • Nationality: Available to international students.
  • Number of ScholarshipsUp to 5 scholarships are available.
  • Scholarship can be taken in Ireland

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

The structured PhD degree is a doctoral training programme with the core component of advancement of knowledge through original research and integrated support for professional development.  The programme is student centered and the qualification is designed to enhance, improve and directly engage the student in relevant research skills. In addition, it will offer the student disciplinary, generic and transferable skills, tailored to suit the experience of the student and reflect the disciplinary requirements.

  • Applicants should hold, or expect to receive, a first class or a good upper second class Honours degree (or equivalent) in an area relevant to the proposed field of research.
  • Where an applicant does not meet this requirement (e.g. they hold a lower second class undergraduate degree), they are eligible to apply if they hold, or expect to receive, a Masters degree (in an area relevant to the proposed PhD) before starting their studentship.
  • Studentships awarded based on predicted grades will be conditional upon final results.

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
