The New Zealand Government offers scholarships to workers from eligible countries to learn new skills in New Zealand. Scholars return home and use these skills to improve their country.

We fund skills training for ASEAN and Timor-Leste workers

Professionals from eligible Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and Timor-Leste can apply for a scholarship to take a short professional training course in the following themes and sectors:

Good Governance
  • Public sector leadership
Climate Change and Resilience
  • Renewable energy
  • Geothermal energy
  • Agriculture

These short courses aim to share New Zealand’s expertise in renewable energy, geothermal energy, agriculture and public sector management with professionals and workers in developing countries. Reputable education institutions in New Zealand deliver these short training courses to successful scholars. Courses are two to four weeks long.

Scholarship application and selection process

To be eligible for one of these scholarships, you must be a citizen from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand or Viet Nam.

The New Zealand Embassy or High Commission asks the government sector and local organisations in each eligible country for suitable scholarship nominations. The New Zealand Embassy or High Commission guides nominees through a closed application and selection process.

If we approve your scholarship, you will receive a Letter of Offer with the conditions of your scholarship. All scholars must accept and abide by these conditions.
