The new Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) programme is now available on offer to pursue Master’s degree in Sweden on a fully-funded Swedish Institute scholarship.

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) programme is part of the Swedish government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders who will contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Swedish Institute is a public agency that promotes interest and trust in Sweden around the world. We work in the fields of culture, education, science and business to strengthen international relations and development.

Scholarship Description

  • Applications Deadline: February 14, 2019
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Master degree programme.
  • Study Subject: SISGP offers scholarships to a large number of master’s programmes starting in the autumn semester 2019. Check the list of master’s programmes that are eligible for SISGP.
  • Scholarship Award: The scholarship covers:
  1. Tuition fees: directly paid to the Swedish university by us
  2. Living expenses of SEK 10,000/month
  3. Travel grant of SEK 15,000 *
  4. Insurance against illness and accident
  5. Membership of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders(NFGL) – a platform to grow professionally and build your network while in Sweden
  6. Membership of the SI Alumni Network after your scholarship period – a platform for continued networking and further professional development

* The travel grant is a one-time payment for the entire study period. The grant is not applicable to students already living in Sweden.

The scholarship does not cover:

  1. Additional grants for family members
  2. Application fee to University Admissions
  • Nationality: The programme is open to applicants from selected countries on the OECD/DAC list who have work and leadership experience.
  • Number of Scholarships: An estimated 300 scholarships will be available for full-time master’s studies in Sweden starting in the autumn semester 2019. Usually 1-2 % of the applicants are awarded a SISGP scholarship.
  • Scholarship can be taken in Sweden

Eligibility for the Scholarship

Eligible Countries: The programme is open to applicants from selected countries on the OECD/DAC list who have work and leadership experience.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

To be eligible for Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP), you must be a citizen of an SISGP-eligible country, and have sufficient documented proof of work and leadership experience. You must also follow the application steps of university admission, and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s programmes on time.

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) aims at diversity and gender equality among scholarship holders. We welcome applicants regardless of age or religious beliefs.

Country of citizenship

SISGP complies with the Swedish government strategy for capacity development, partnership and methods supporting the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. The programme is funded by Sweden’s development aid budget, the goal of which is to create opportunities for people who live in poverty and oppression to improve their living conditions. In order to effectively deliver results in line with the strategy and the goal of development aid, SISGP focuses on the countries below.

Citizens of these countries are eligible to apply to SISGP:

Bangladesh; Bolivia; Brazil; Cambodia; Cameroon; Colombia; Ecuador; Egypt; Ethiopia; Gambia; Ghana; Guatemala; Honduras; Indonesia; Jordan; Kenya; Liberia; Malawi; Morocco; Myanmar (Burma); Nepal; Nigeria; Pakistan; Peru; Philippines; Rwanda; Sri Lanka; Sudan; Tanzania; Tunisia; Uganda; Vietnam; Zambia; Zimbabwe.

You must have a citizenship in one of the eligible countries. However, you do not need to reside in the country at the time of the application.

Citizens of other countries:

Citizens of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Turkey and Ukraine cannot apply to SISGP, but are eligible for other SI scholarship programmes.

Application Procedure

How to Apply: You should only submit the required documents listed below in your online scholarship application. We will not consider any other documents than the required ones. You must complete your application in English. Use the forms and templates provided below and complete them according to the instructions, or else your applications will be disqualified.

  1. A motivation letter: you must use the SISGP form for motivation letter 2019/2020. The form will be available here in January 2019.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV): you must use the SISGP template for CV and the CV should not exceed the number of pages indicated in the template. Additional pages will not be considered. The template will be available here in January 2019.
  3. Two different letters of reference: you must use the SISGP form for letter of reference. At least one letter of reference must be based on your work experience. It will be a merit if the second letter of reference is based on your involvement in networks or civil society organisations outside of your regular work. The letters should be signed by the referee and stamped with an official stamp of the referred organisation or a notary office. The form(s) should be typed, then printed, signed and stamped; and then be uploaded as one PDF-file.   4. Proof of work and leadership experience: you must use the SISGP form for proof of work and leadership experience. The work and leadership form should be signed by the referee and stamped with an official stamp of the referred organisation or a notary office. The form(s) should be typed, then printed, signed and stamped; and then be uploaded as one PDF-file. You can find more information in the instruction in the form and in our FAQ. The form will be available here by the end of December 2018.
  5. A copy of your passport: your personal data including name, citizenship and photograph must be shown clearly. Copy of passport should be included together with the CV as a last page. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a copy of your valid passport to include.
