 Mission

ILA focus on students and students’ outcomes. Teaching Assistants play a key role in helping to educate students. Teaching Assistants support the teacher to ensure that the students get the maximum benefit from learning activities that the teacher plan and carries out for them.

1.     Teaching Assistants provide support by helping to oversee the class and assist students who have questions, need encouragement or seek assistance to accomplish assigned tasks. TA is in charge of letting all students in the class join the lesson effectively.

2.     Teaching Assistants play a critical role as they are pivotal in building happy and purposeful relationship between students and teachers.

3.     Teaching Assistants link parents and the center, the teacher together by reporting students’ progress frequently. Together with teachers, Teaching Assistants help students to improve their English and soft skills during a course.

Students learn best in a safe, nurturing and happy environment which we hope that teachers and teaching assistants can make it work!

 Job Description

ILA's teaching assistants are professional, enthusiastic and responsible, with great English and an eagerness to tackle problems and learn new skills. They play a number of essential roles in the learning experience, both inside and outside the classroom.

The teaching assistant role is a key of the ILA’s strength. ILA teaching assistants are fully qualified and experienced in ESL education environment. They are aware of the needs of their students and are dedicated to helping and supporting each one achieve his/her learning goals.

Responsibilities:

1.      Teaching Assistant hours in class

•    Taking classes as requested
•    Having substitution as requested

2.      Classroom Management

•    Support teachers in class/during the course
•    Assist students in class/during the course
•    Control and take care of students in class
•    Assign and mark homework

3.      Course Administration

•    Prepare and distribute course books, materials and merchandise
•    Update students with course progress information
•    Check students’ attendance daily
•    Prepare students for exams, Cambridge
•    Deliver letters
•    Report any incidents or problems to TAO

4.      Learning and Development

Attend Workshop and Training as requested

5.      Customer Care

•    Report students’ progress - results (monthly)Call parent for absent students
•    Support in delivering and collecting CSS from parents (K&J)Support in handling requests and complaints
•    Tutoring weak students
•    Support Events (end of course, enrichment, ESOL …)
•    Calling Letter New Course
•    Support in re-enrolment tasks when requested

6.      Others

Support center when requested 

Pastoral Responsibilities:

• Promote a positive, confident and happy learning community when dealing with teachers, parents or students.
• Encourage and enforce an English speaking environment for all students within the school classrooms. No communication in Vietnamese should be allowed during and within English classes.
• Work closely with other staff members as a team to ensure students’ progress are well documented and communicated.
• Work and communicate professionally with colleagues.
• Assist in marketing programmes and parent discussion groups and other programmes to promote the school and its philosophies as/when required.
• Support and implement the student code of conduct.

Requirements

University graduates majoring in English / any other discipline with English components 

[Current university students from year 3rd above are also acceptable]

University Students  

•       Must have Teaching Assistant Level Test (TA: 80+, JTA: 70-80)
•       Accumulated transcript (7.0 and above)
•       IELTS (6.5 and up) and/or TOEFL IBT (80 and up) preferred
•       Any other ESL certificate with CEFR - level C1 equivalent preferred
•       Reference(s)

University Graduate   

•       Must have Teaching Assistant Level Test (TA: Upper Intermediate and up, JTA: Intermediate, Pre-Intermediate)
•       University degree (Bachelor or higher)
•       IELTS (6.5 and up) and/or TOEFL IBT (80 and up) preferred
•       Any other ESL certificate with CEFR - level C1 equivalent preferred
•       Reference(s)

•     Engaging teaching style - S/he is passionate about teaching assistant tasks and working with students, and is able to develop a strong rapport with students and establish trusting relationships.
•     Adaptability & Creativity - teaching assistants are professional, enthusiastic and responsible, with great English and an eagerness to tackle problems and learn new skills. The teaching assistant must understand 21st century learning, edutech tools and apply these in classroom management. 
•    Communication - The teaching assistant must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, academic management and local staff, and is professional in all workplace communication, even when in disagreement with any parties. S/he approaches a conversation with an open mind and conveys respect for people’s ideas. 
•    Lifelong learner - The teaching assistants actively seeks professional development and career path with ILA, continues to absorb experiences and knowledge, and is a life long learner who refreshes her/his skills to meet the changing educational landscape. S/he will come across new teaching approaches and when faced with new teaching ideas, s/he seeks to widen her/his teaching skills to be well-equipped in TA role or seek for Vietnamese IELTS teachers or full time positions
•    Career developer with ILA - The teaching assistants actively seeks career path with ILA, continues to absorb experiences and knowledge, and skills to meet other full time positions. There is a career path for TA after having finished TA role successfully.
•    Digital literacy - The teaching assistant will have to be familiar with current educational tech tools and how these can be used to facilitate their role.  S/he applies emerging tools and technologies in a way that enhances learning and students’ time in the classroom.
•    Role model - The teaching assistant must be able to lead by example in order to teach the values and model behaviours expected of the learners, which in turn enable the students to become autonomous lifelong learners.

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

•       The mentor: TAs work closely with the class and know their personalities, strengths and weaknesses. They build relationships with the learners, ensure they are at ease and tutor anyone who is struggling.
•       The ambassador: As the main channel of communication between ILA and parents, TAs represent ILA to its customers. With an enthusiastic demeanour they keep parents informed about their child's progress and promote ILA initiatives.
•       The guardian: At breaktime and before and after class TAs act as chaperones for learners. They care deeply about the learners' welfare and help ensure the classroom is a safe learning environment and that learners are supervised outside the classroom.
•       The facilitator: TAs are responsible for the organisation and administration of the class. They take attendance, set and mark homework, help run activities and record what was studied.
