Job purpose
The Digital Humanities Curator at Fulbright University Vietnam will report to the Director of the Vietnam Studies Center at Fulbright University Vietnam; and the Head Librarian at Fulbright University Vietnam. The Digital Humanities Curator will also work closely with the Digital Humanities Curator at Columbia University to help coordinate the collaboration between Columbia, FUV, and other institutions and collections in Vietnam.
The Digital Humanities Curator at FUV will assist the Digital Humanities Curator at Columbia in constructing the “Digital Vietnam” online repository and digital humanities workbench, and will work closely with metadata specialists housed in Digital Collections, Digital Scholarship experts, and collections librarians. Additionally, the Digital Humanities Curator will assist the Head Librarian at Fulbright University Vietnam in expanding its digital collections and general library development; and collaborate with Vietnam Studies and Computer Science faculty in digitizing, curating, and disseminating several collections of great significance to the field of Vietnam Studies. Also in need of digitization and curation are the archives of Fulbright University Vietnam and its predecessor, the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program, which has been an important center of economics and public policy research, teaching, and policy advice for the Vietnamese government over the last three decades that saw Vietnam’s rapid growth and integration into the global economy. Another target of opportunity is rare books from public libraries in Vietnam. And finally, the Digital Humanities Curator will help preserve the intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam held in the memories of its denizens by directing a team of student interns to collect and preserve them as oral histories.

Roles and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Digital Humanities Curator include but is not limited to:
1. Work closely with Digital Collections at Columbia and Fulbright University of Vietnam in their work archiving materials on the back end and maintaining metadata accuracy.
2. Work closely with faculty focused on Vietnam at Fulbright University Vietnam to cultivate and expand the digital repositories, in response to donations or other procurements, potentially including digitization of physical materials.
3. Collaborate with faculty to create and maintain various aspects of Digital Vietnam’s online site, including materials for teaching, learning, and outreach.
4. Manage a team of student interns to conduct oral history projects in southern Vietnam and preserve and curate the recordings.
5. Support the Library Manager at Fulbright University Vietnam with the general operations and development of the Fulbright Library.
Other duties:
Contributing to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed; and perform other duties as assigned.
What we look for
· Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science AND/OR Bachelor’s degree focusing on a relevant subfield of Vietnamese Studies (specialization open)
· Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Fluency in Vietnamese and English
• Knowledge of oral history methodology and multimedia archives
• Demonstrated record of following a workflow to completion in a timely and efficient manner
• Strong capacity to collaborate with multiple individuals, departments, and institutions towards common goals
• Strong capacity for independent initiative and creativity, in pursuit of stated goals
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in a university or collegiate setting, and/or equivalent academic setting, preferably an academic library.
• A successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate familiarity with the following relevant technologies:
• Fluency in modern Vietnamese and English
• Web technologies, including html, CSS, and xml.
• Software languages (e.g. Python, Javascript, Ruby, PHP) and modern web application frameworks (React, Jekyll, Gatsby or similar, Rails).
• Relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and linked data technologies.
• Version control systems (git) and source code repositories (GitHub).
• Knowledge of oral history methodology and multimedia archives.
· Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
• Master’s Degree or above in Computer Science and/or in any subfield of Vietnamese Studies,
• extensive background in broader East and Southeast Asian Studies.
• Knowledge of modern Mandarin Chinese and/or French, in addition to languages listed above. Experience in a library and/or other academic setting.
• Experience with web design, website creation, and citation management software.
• Experience with interoperable frameworks, especially IIIF.
• Experience developing dynamic and interactive media, and/or interactive scholarly works for multiple devices with experience implementing best practices for responsive design and accessibility. Interest in digital scholarship, including some familiarity with cataloging and TEI.
• Experience with Unicode and East Asian language text processing, including search, input, and fonts.
• Experience in managing interns to complete long-term tasks.
• Reading fluency in Classical Chinese and French
• Strong capacity in Vietnamese vernacular Chữ Nôm script
• Familiarity with Vietnamese culture, history, literature, and society, specialization open
